The Défenseur des droits is an independent administrative authority responsible for ensuring that citizens' rights and freedoms are respected. Enshrined in the French Constitution, it has two missions: to defend people whose rights are not respected, and to ensure that everyone's rights are respected. The appointment of its representative is the responsibility of the President of the Republic.
