Photo language as a tool for inclusion

Photo language is a method designed primarily to help people feel more comfortable speaking up when expressing themselves in a group. The selected images allow each person to project their perceptions, emotions, and experiences onto a neutral and non-threatening medium.

Diversi’Cartes© features images carefully selected to specifically address discussions on workplace quality of life, inclusion, and diversity (2 years of R&D).

Topics covered: Diversity, Discrimination, Inclusion, Gender Equality in the Workplace, Gender Balance, LGBT+, Psychosocial Risks, Living Together in Harmony, Disabilities, Intergenerational Issues.

Objectives and Benefits

Encourage open communication

Images allow participants to express themselves on sensitive topics (discrimination, inclusion, stereotypes) without directly exposing themselves. Each person projects their own perceptions onto a neutral medium.

Balancing trade

Photography gives everyone an equal voice: reserved people find a way to express themselves, while talkative people are kept in check by the structure of the exercise.

Reinforcing awareness

Using visuals and emotion creates a stronger memory than a theoretical presentation. Participants retain the key messages better and internalize them more fully.

How to Use Diversi'Cartes

Contents: 55 professional-quality photo cards
Participants: 4 to 30 people
Duration: 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the facilitator
Context: Training sessions, seminars, D&I workshops, team meetings, diversity days

Instructions: Lay the cards out on a table. Each participant chooses one or two cards that “speak to them” in relation to the given theme (e.g., “What does inclusion mean to you?”). Everyone explains their choice to the group. The facilitator guides the discussion.

Available as an activity kit for in-house facilitators, complete with a teacher’s guide.

Why Use Visual Communication in the Workplace?

In training sessions and awareness-raising workshops, the main challenge is getting participants to speak up—especially on topics perceived as sensitive. Photo-language overcomes this barrier by relying on images rather than direct speech.
