Parental leave, also known as educational leave, is a right granted to employees, enabling them to suspend their professional activity or reduce their working hours in order to look after the education of a child, whether following birth or adoption. This leave can be taken by one or both parents, and has an initial maximum duration of one year, renewable under certain conditions. Parents can choose between total leave, during which the employment contract is suspended, or partial leave, which involves a reduction in working hours to at least 16 hours a week.
